Social media posts in AI Overview

Im beginning to see a pattern: Posts with high engagement are being used more often in AI overview. Im going to show you an example of this below...

Last week I made a very simple post with this text: Backlinks are more important than onpage SEO. Prove me wrong...

Naturally this got a lot of interactions, especially in Facebook. Its currently sitting at 661 likes, 292 comments and 20 shares.

I noticed it showing up after one day in Google. At first, Google showed it with +100 reactions. I just checked now, and its showing in the serps with +650 reactions.

That tells me three things:

- Google is recrawling popular posts..

- Google is counting the number of interactions

- Google is promoting more popular posts

Allthough I cant be 100% sure on the third point, I do see now, that when I search for this:

Are backlinks more important than on page seo

Then I now see my Facebook post as a top cition in the AI overview. It cant be cited because of what I wrote, because my text was so short. So it has to be the comments...

The other two top citations are Reddit and Linkedin. I counted the number of interactions that theses posts had:

Linkedin: 450 reactions

Reddit: +30 reactions

My Facebook post: 650 reactions

This is a very interesting develoment, and one that I will continue to follow..
